The Dawn of Civilization

The history of Egypt is as rich and deep as the Nile River itself. When we talk about Egypt, we don't just talk about a country, but a cradle of civilization that has shaped the world in countless ways. Egypt's history spans over 5,000 years, making it one of the oldest civilizations on Earth.

The Predynastic and Early Dynastic Period

Before the pharaohs, Egypt was divided into small tribes that eventually grew into two main kingdoms: Upper and Lower Egypt. However, around 3100 BC, King Menes, also known as Narmer, unified these kingdoms, marking the beginning of the Early Dynastic Period and the First Dynasty of Egypt.

The Old Kingdom

The Old Kingdom, also known as the Age of the Pyramids, is perhaps the most iconic period in Egypt's history. It was during this time that the great pyramids of Giza were built, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The Middle Kingdom

Following a period of chaos and disunity, the Middle Kingdom emerged, a period often referred to as the Renaissance of Egyptian culture. It was during this time that literature, art, and architecture flourished, and Egypt expanded its political influence to the south and into the Middle East.

The New Kingdom

The New Kingdom, also known as the Egyptian Empire, is the period of Egypt's greatest territorial extent. It was during this time that some of the most famous pharaohs ruled, including Tutankhamun, Ramses II, and the female pharaoh Hatshepsut.

The Late Period and Greco-Roman Egypt

The Late Period was marked by the invasion of foreign powers. Despite this, the Egyptian culture remained strong and even influenced its conquerors. The last of the pharaohs was Cleopatra VII, who ruled during the time of the Roman Empire.
